20 Sodom and Gomorrah demonstrators arrested

The Police have arrested 20 of the protesters in Accra over a demolition exercise by the AMA

The police in Accra have arrested twenty persons who hit the streets Monday morning to demonstrate against the demolition of structures at Sodom and Gomorrah.

Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tengey who confirmed the arrests said the culprits who are currently in their custody will assist them in investigations to Monday’s violent riot. Read more

She said those arrested were among the hundreds of angry residents who pelted stones at the security personnel and journalists who had been stationed at the scene of the event to restore calm and report at on the issue respectively.

ASP Afia Tengey who described the action by the angry youth as an “eye-sore” said, “…even after a number of instructions from the police trying to calm them down, they disobeyed all those orders. They were still pelting stones, burning tyres, trying to vandalise police properties and everything around.”
