He said said in his first year in office, 394 sole-sourcing requests were made, out of which 223 which represents 56.6 per cent were approved, and 171, which represents 43.4 per cent were rejected.

He noted that there were 346 requests for restricted tenders, and 167, that is 48 per cent were approved, and 179 representing 52 per cent were rejected.

"The savings, made over the year as a result, amounted to some GH¢800 million," the president told parliament in his second State of the Nation Address on Thursday, 8 February 2018.

The Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply earlier said Ghana lost of GH¢100 million through various unethical procurement practices in 2015.

The Auditor General’s annual reports have in the past noted that about 80 percent of procurement malpractices are centred around sole sourcing.
