The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed shock and grief over the death of  a founding father of the governing party,

A statement issued by acting General Secretary John Boadu on Wednesday, February 14 stated that "As a mark of respect in honour of his memory, the NPP directs that all party flags in the respective regions and constituencies should be flown at half-mast for the next seven days."

The party commiserated with the family and said "with his immediate family and friends, the Ashanti Regional party and the rest of the nation for such incalculable loss. We stand with the family in these difficult times and would provide them the needed support as deserving of a hero."

Appiah was a member of the Council of Elders of the ruling NPP.

Appiah Menka, who was a private legal practitioner and a businessman was famously known for producing the Appino soap.

He also served as a Minister of State in the Second Republic. He was on the Constitutional Review Commission set up by the late President Mills in 2009.

Until his demise, Menka was the Chairman of the Ashanti Oils Mills, Appiah Menka Complex Limited and Appiah Menka Plantations.
