Nduom concedes defeat, congratulates Nana Addo

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party has congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party on winning the polls.

Dr Nduom is the second presidential candidate after Dr Edward Mahama to have conceded defeat to the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate.

The campaign manager of Nana Akuffo-Addo, Mr Peter Mac-Manu had earlier called on President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to concede defeat.

Dr Nduom in a message on Facebook thanked his supporters and accepted the decision on behalf of his party.

“I wish to congratulate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP for winning the 2016 presidential election based on results available to me. The wind of change has blown in his favour. The NPP worked hard for this victory. I accept the decision of the people on behalf of the PPP. We must all now work hard to make our country great and strong and the people prosperous.”  He said

At a press conference held by the party on Thursday dawn, the campaign team of Akufo-Addo said that with 80% of valid votes counted,  they were leading by 54%. He said Mahama has 43%.  The Electoral Commission has come out to state that it is unlawful for any party to declare the results of the polls. They debunked the claims by the NPP over their victory declaring that some constituencies had not ended the collation of the results whiles others are yet to vote.
