Fuel shortage will not affect police operations - spokesman

Supt Arthur has confirmed in a broadcast interview that the police have been hit by fuel shortage but said it will not affect police patrol operation.

The Ghana Police Service will cut down or suspend fuel supply to officers while preserving the rest for police operations, the Public Affairs Director at the Police headquarters, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, has said.

“The police has a little challenge. We have a little reduction in our stock so what we do when we encounter similar challenges is that we cut down or suspend supply to office vehicles and preserve what we have left for operational vehicles so that our core mandate of policing, patrolling and protecting lives and property is retained,” he told Citi FM Wednesday.

“I will say that we have some challenges but the challenges are not such that it could affect our core mandate of maintaining law and order.”

According to multiple media reports, the police fuel depot at 37, Accra, has been shutdown due to fuel shortage.

GOIL is said to have cut back on fuel supply due to lack of payment by the police for previous supply.

Supt Arthur refused to confirm or deny the debt claim but said operational vehicles are being supplied with fuel.
