Rawlings set to address 31st Dec. Revolution anniversary

The event will take place at the Revolutionary Square, just outside the Flagstaff House.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony and parade to mark the anniversary.

The theme for this year’s ceremony is ‘31st December – The Principles Never Change’.

Cadres of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are expected to grace the occasion.

A release from the Planning Committee says Saturday’s ceremony is expected to be short and solemn.

The revolution, which occurred in 1989, ousted the Dr Hilla Limann administration which was less than two years old after winning a democratic election.

This year's event comes weeks after the party he founded, the NDC, was crushed as the polls by more than a million vote.

Rawlings could be tempted to use the occasion to outline reasons the party performed so poorly at the polls.

He has been a fierce critic of the Mahama administration following multiple scandals and corruption against some government officials.
