Gov't to restore teacher trainee allowances in March - Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has reiterated government’s commitment to restore the allowances both teacher of nursing trainees.

He said the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will announce the restoration of the allowances in their  first budget in March.

The NPP has assured thousands of nursing and teacher trainees across the country of the full restoration of their allowances.

The party noted that with just GH¢20 billion in revenues (loans and taxes), and without the benefit of oil revenues, the NPP was able to pay nursing trainee and teacher trainee allowances during the Kufour administration.

In reassuring the nursing students during the campaign season, Dr. Bawumia noted that in the very first budget of an Akufo-Addo government in 2017, "the restoration of nursing trainee and teacher allowances will be a line item in the budget. We shall restore your allowances in full. It will not be a propaganda restoration, but a full restoration of your allowances."

Dr. Bawumia addressing a gathering at Fadama in Accra said government is committed and will not fail to fulfil its promise to restore the allowances.

"We are very determined to restore our promise on the teacher trainee and nursing allowances. The teacher trainee and nursing allowance will come off after the first budget in March.

"We have looked at the situation; it is not an easy one. It is very a difficult one but  by the grace of Allah, we intend to keep all promises we made to the people of Ghana," the vice president added.
