Arthur Kennedy’s advice to Akufo-Addo ‘baseless’ – Nana Akomea

Dr Arthur Kennedy opined that Nana Akufo-Addo, during his recent press conference to restore calm in the party, should have condemned attempts to impeach National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

submissions by a leading member of the party, Dr Arthur Kennedy that flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo should have specifically condemned attempts by regional executives to oust both the National Chairman and the General Secretary from office as baseless.

Dr Arthur Kennedy opined that Nana Akufo-Addo, during his recent press conference to restore calm in the party, should have condemned attempts to impeach National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

“Most people in the National Executive Council (NEC) have already revealed their stance. The same NEC people have been inundated with a number of petitions. So first, Nana Addo should have unequivocally condemned the impeachment procedures that was the key essential for peace. The second thing is that he should have gone to the press conference with Agyepong on his left and Afoko on his right and called for peace,” he said on Citi FM’s The Big Issue show.

However, Nana Akomea has stated that, Nana Akufo-Addo did the right thing to have asked aggrieved members to follow the right procedure for impeachment.

“He [Arthur Kennedy] said Akufo-Addo should have come out clearly and condemn the cause of impeachment. Why will Akufo-Addo do that? These are opinions being expressed by party members so what Nana Akufo-Addo advised was for party members to follow the grievance procedure.”

Nana Akomea also questioned the basis of Dr Arthur Kennedy’s claims that the Chairman and General Secretary are not being allowed to work effectively saying, “Arthur Kennedy makes the point that people don’t want Afoko and Agyepong to work without any proof…What is the basis of his statement that people have prevented the Chairman and the General Secretary from working?”

The internal wrangling in NPP has intensified over the last few weeks following the killing of the Upper East regional chairman, Adams Mahama. Some members of the party have accused the national chairman, Paul Afoko and general secretary, Kwabena Agyepong for masterminding the killing but the two have denied any involvement. While some party members verbally asked Messrs Afoko and Agyepong to step aside for peace to prevail, the Council of Elders and the Minority caucus reportedly wrote to the duo.

But, flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, at a press confab on Friday urged all members to stop pointing fingers and wait for the police to conclude their investigations. He also called on them to cease fire and allow the two party national executives access to their offices.
