The minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba has said that her hairstyle helps her relate to the youth in a very cordial way.
She said the youth see her as one of them because of the ‘controversial’ hairstyle she wears.

“I can relate better to the youth because I’m a ‘swagger’ mama and I believe I’m the best person to encourage the youth because they feel comfortable with me. They see me and they say ‘I want to be like you.”
She further explained that “the youth I am dealing with are okay with me and I am okay with them and that is what matters the most.”

“ I don’t see anything wrong with my hairstyle. Some of the men out there even wish their wives were like me," she told Joy News.
She also indicated that whatever style she decided to adopt will be her choice and not one forced on her.

“You have to be confident with who you are. And I am very okay with what I wear. If I decide to change my hair, it is my choice and not somebody else’s and that is what we must begin to understand about diversity.”
“My hair style is a winning hairstyle, it encourages young ones,” she added.

On how she was treated during her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament she said “men must respect women.”
