Ghanaians living abroad will soon participate in voluntary national service in Ghana.

The Director of Diasporan Relations at the Office of the Presidency, Akwasi Awua Ababio said that the government has announced a programme towards that regard.

Speaking on Accra-based Class FM, the Minister said that the government believes that the diaspora is the “11th region” of Ghana and hence resources from the diaspora should be channelled towards the growth of Ghana’s economy.

He disclosed that the government was in partnership with private firms and several companies have already been compiled for the programme.

The companies will take care of the allowances of participants and hence the government will not incur extra costs, Ababio said.

He, however, indicated that the government will give the participants certificates when they complete their service.
