Sylvester Mensah breaks silence on his arrest

The former CEO has been under investigation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI)

 

Former boss of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah has told some supporters of the National Democratic Congress that he will be cleared soon of all fraudulent case he is alleged to be involved in.

The former CEO has been under investigation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in connection with alleged fraud by some National Health Insurance Scheme service providers.

Sylvester Mensah has subsequently had his bank account frozen by the Financial Intelligence Centre under the Bank of Ghana.

This was after an ex-parte application filed by the Financial Intelligence Centre and granted at an Accra court.

The situation has however angered NDC executives and supporters in the La Dadekotopon constituency in Accra.

The supporters on Friday staged a protest against his arrest.

Addressing the angry supporters, Sylvester Mensah assured them that there is no cause for alarm as he is of the fervent hope that he will not be found guilty at the end of the investigation.

He urged them to remain calm and open up party offices for political activities to go on.

Background

Sylvester Mensah tendered himself to the BNI on the New Year Day, January 1, after seven armed BNI operatives stormed his residence at Tse Addo near Trade Fair in Accra at dawn.

Mr. Mensah was not home when the armed men invaded his residence.

They however proceeded to search his house and manhandle his security man

Seventeen people have meanwhile been cautioned and granted bail by the BNI.

The investigations began six months ago at the instance of President John Mahama.

According to the BNI, some medical facilities have been falsifying documents and submitting bloated claims to the NHIA. In some cases, officials of such medical facilities colluded with officials of the NHIA to defraud the authority.
