TEWU calls off strike

The members of TEWU began an indefinite strike on Monday to demand the rectification of some disparities in their salaries following the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has called off its one-week old strike.

This is to allow the leadership of the group to resume discussions with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).

The National Labour Commission (NLC) described the industrial action as illegal and advised the workers to call it off before negotiations can resume.

In an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, the chairman of TEWU, Peter Lumor said the strike was called off following discussions between the leadership and members of the group.

The posture of Fair Wages yesterday [Friday] was a bit different from previous ones,” he revealed.

Mr. Lumor indicated that resumption of discussions of their grievances has been scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 28.

He was hopeful that the matter will be “resolved once and for all.”
