Minister commits to resolving chieftaincy disputes

Speaking at a Forum in Ho in the Volta Region, he said many of the security challenges he has received briefing on from the National Security Minister, is on Chieftaincy dispute and conflict.

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, has committed to resolving the numerous chieftaincy dispute across the country.

He, therefore, promised to resolved about 40 percent to them before the end of the year. He said there are about 356 chieftaincy dispute across the country.

"I have been informed by the Minister for National Security that 50 percent of the problems that he has, have to do with chieftaincy disputes. So we too have resolved that this year, we would be able to solve 40 percent of the chieftaincy problems that are in the country," he said.

The forum was on deliberations to create a new region out of the Volta Region organised by the Minister for Regional Reorganisaion.

Mr Dzamesi also announced a 100 percent increment of allowances of chiefs and Queens in the country.

“We have resolved that the GHc 500 which Paramount Chiefs receive as monthly allowance would now be increased to GHC1,000. And the GHC 350 received by the Queens would be increased to GHC800," he said.
