Mahama confers national honours on distinguished personalities

Prof Christopher Gordon of the University of Ghana, Mr Totobi Kwakye, Commodore Stephen Obimpeh (rtd), Huudu Yahaya, former general secretary NDC; Prof Fred Binka, Prof Joshua Alabi, Rev Fr. Vincent Burke and Prof Joseph Kpakpo Acquaye, also received the "Companion of the Order of the Volta" award

 

“Throughout Africa you are acclaimed as one of the continent's largest and most profitable oil marketing companies in Nigeria, becoming the first Nigerian company to strike oil in 1991,” a citation that accompanied the award said.

Prof Christopher Gordon of the University of Ghana, Mr Totobi Kwakye, Commodore Stephen Obimpeh (rtd), Huudu Yahaya, former general secretary NDC; Prof Fred Binka, Prof Joshua Alabi, Rev Fr. Vincent Burke and Prof Joseph Kpakpo Acquaye, also received the "Companion of the Order of the Volta" award.

The other recipient of the award in the category was Prof Samuel Kwadwo Owusu, Rev Dr Seth Mensah Ablorh, Justice Rose Constance Owusu, Dr Kwabena Adjei, former National chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Prof Chukwuka Okonjo.

Other recipients of the national awards are Supreme Court judge Justice Rose Constance Owusu, former NDC Chairman Dr Kwabena Adjei, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, Professor Joshua Alabi, Commodore Stephen Obimpeh rtd, Rev father Vincent Burke and Prof Joseph Kpakpo Acquaye.

Others are Rev Dr Seth Mensah Ablorh, Justice Rose Constance Owusu, Prof Chukwuka Okonjo and Prof. Christopher Gordon of the University of Ghana.

President Mahama noted in his speech that Ghana has become better because of the sacrifices of the awardees and many others.

In all 35 individuals were awarded comprising 27 Ghanaians and 7 foreigners.
