About thirteen people sustained  serious injuries after an explosion at an abandoned quarry site in Paebo in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern region.

The blast, which occurred Wednesday evening, collapsed several buildings in the community and destroyed lots of property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

It is unclear what caused the explosion.

But reports suggest that some explosives which might have been left behind by the Company which used to operate the site might have been the cause.

Security has however been tightened in the area to prevent any likely explosion.

Meanwhile, the over one thousand people displaced as a result of the explosion have refused to re-settle at make-shift shelters created for them, the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO has said.
