The power situation could worsen in the coming days as GRIDCo plans to replace over-aged equipment at its major substations across the country
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced interruptions in power supply from now till July, 2016, when it expects to complete replacement of “over-aged equipment at its major substations across the country”.
The works include the re-configuration of some of these substations, installation of additional transformers, replacement of switch-gears, construction or expansion of Control Rooms, as well as the provision of capacitor banks and standby generators at some major substations.
A statement issued Monday by GRIDCo mentioned Achimota, Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Dunkwa, Tamale, Sunyani, Techiman, Aflao, Winneba, as some of the affected substations.
The statement added: “As a result of these on-going works, which are planned for completion by July 2016, there may be short interruptions in power supply to consumers, in order to create a safe working environment for the workers, outside the regular load shedding programme”.
It said GRIDCo requests the support of consumers during this period and assured the public that adequate measures have been put in place to minimize the outages, which might result from these works.
“GRIDCo regrets any inconvenience that may be caused to consumers during this period,” it added.
