Do not pardon Montie 3 - Baba Jamal to Mahama

Baba Jamal, who has signed the petition book said upon reflection, granting pardon to the contemnors will not be in the best interest of the president.

“Let me tell you something interesting...“I believe that the president shouldn’t give them the pardon.

“The pardon will not be something that will be in the interest of the president as an individual through his political career [and] what he has done for this country to go out with that colour,” he told Accra-based Starr FM.

Baba Jamal advised the counsel for the three contemnors to seek for review if possible.

The Montie three, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase alias ‘Mugabe’ were sentenced to four months in prison by the Supreme Court following contempt proceedings against them.

The contempt proceedings came after the three threatened the Supreme Court judges who sat on the Abu Ramadan and Gary Nimako versus the Electoral Commission case.

A petition book subsequently opened by pro-government group Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP) gathered over 18 million signatories from government appointees including the deputy minister of Education in charge of Tertiary, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare and the Education Minister, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

The group subsequently presented the petition to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
