The president, Nana Addo, announcing his first batch of ministerial appointment nominated Yaw Osafo Marfo to head the re-introduced Senior Minister portfolio.
Some Ghanaians have since criticised the appointment saying it will be a waste of the tax payers money.
But appearing before the Appointments Committee on Friday, Osafo Marfo said: “I’m to coordinate the activities of the economic sectors of his [Akufo-Addo’s] cabinet as it may be…and he wanted me to bring my experience as a minister of finance, as somebody who had done a similar job in Uganda, a similar job in Liberia to bare.”

He said: “The economic sector relates to the other ministries, so, naturally my experience will be brought to bear on my colleagues to make sure that we resuscitate the economy in a very homogenised manner so that there will be harmony.”
The Senior Minister portfolio was first introduced by the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufor administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). It was then headed by J.H Mensah.
However, the previous administrations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former presidents, John Evans Attah Mills and John Mahama scrapped that portfolio.
