Korle-bu is currently a bigger monster - Prof Frimpong Boateng

The Minister-designate for Science and Technology and former Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has stated that the Hospital has now become a “bigger monster” than it used to be.

The former Head of the National Cardiothoracic Centre wrote a book titled ‘Taming a Monster’. The book gave a detailed insight of how he managed the health facility as its Chief Executive Officer.

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the biggest hospital in West Africa has over the years been in the news for several wrong reasons.

Several CEOs have failed to transform the hospital with staff constantly demanding the dismissal of its heads and board members.

Prof Frimpong Boateng said, “It (Korle-bu) has become a bigger monster that you cannot kill and you cannot eat.”

Recently, the Korle Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) has said it wants the new government to sack Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Gilbert Buckle as well as some other senior management officials and the Board.

This follows reports that Dr Gilbert Buckle alone, the Chief Executive Officer of the nation’s biggest hospital, took home 21,000 cedis in Christmas bonuses at the end of 2016.
