The Ghana Police Service will hold prayers nationwide for all police personnel at police churches nationwide on Sunday, February 4, 2018.
The prayers will be said to seek divine protection for personnel in the wake of the killing and injury of police officers.
This was contained in an invitation letter from the Religious Directorate of the Service.

The invitation said that; “this has become very necessary and imperative considering the recent spate of adversarial killings of service officers… It behoves upon us as the clergy of the Service to beseech the divine protection for all serving officers.”
This comes after some unscrupulous people raided the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters, killing a police officer on duty, and freeing 7 persons who were on remand.
Similar raids on police stations occurred in 2017 together with other incidents where police officers were killed on duty.
According to The Finder newspaper, at least 48 police officers have been killed in the line of duty from 2013 to date.

The number of officers killed each year during the period is 2013 – 13; 2014 – 11; 2015 – seven; 2016 – six; 2017 – 7 and 2018 – 4.
It was discovered that at least 15 out of the 48 were killed by armed robbers and unidentified gunmen.
But the clergymen in the Police Service said they “believe and are highly convinced that with divine intervention, the recent death shadow cast on the Police Administration would reduce, if not wane out.”
The clergy further assured that they will not relent in their intercessory and pastoral role within the service.
