Some Nigerian commercial sex workers at Tamale in the Northern Region have started leaving the city after the Chief Executive of the metropolis declared ‘war’ on prostitution in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.
The Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with the Metropolitan Security Council (METSEC), earlier announced that it will embark on an exercise in Tamale to close down all drug and prostitution joints in the area.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive argue that this action is in accordance with the law on narcotic drugs control, enforcement and sanctions (PNDCL 236, 1990).
The security agencies helping in the exercise are expected to storm identifiable marijuana ghettos and places where prostitutes operate.

Those arrested will be arraigned.
Most of the commercial sex workers have said that they are unhappy with the new development.
However, the assembly has reiterated that it will carry out its agenda to remove all prostitutes in the area.
