A 40-year-old farmer has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court for defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.

Abubakar Osumanu, who is a cocoa farmer at Akorakese, near Akim Oda, a cocoa community in the Eastern Region, confessed and pleaded guilty to the charges of incest and defilement, the GNA reports.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Amon told the court presided by Michael Cudjoe Etumi, that an endorsed medical report confirmed that the impregnated schoolgirl has also been infected with HIV\AIDS virus.

The police chief said that the victim lives in Nsusososo, a suburb of Agona Swedru, with the complainant.

The victim is a daughter of the accused and usually comes over during the weekends for money for school.

But the accused has been taking advantage of her coming to ask for money to have sexual intercourse with her on several occasions.

The Prosecution said on November 19, 2017, at about 1900 hours, the accused came to Agona Swedru and lured the victim to Ken Diasco Guest House where he had sex with her.

The accused reported the matter to the complainant (her guardian) when she returned home around 0430 hours.

The Agona Swedru Divisional Command of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) was alerted over the incident and the accused was subsequently arrested.
