Families of two accident victims who had their legs amputated at the Central Regional Hospital in Winneba under what they describe as questionable circumstances are demanding investigations into the matter.
The two people, Jacob Mensah, 25, and Isaac Amankwaa Annor, 33, were sent to the Hospital on a referral from the Kasoa Hospital after they had an accident at Denkyira near Kasoa, and sustained leg injuries.
According to their family members, a medical doctor who was on duty at the time, George Kwame Prah, told them the legs of the two would have to be amputated but they were not in favour of that decision.
A brother of one of the victim, Albert Mensah told Accra-based Onua FM that his relatives told the doctor that they plan to resort to alternative medicine to treat the injury after the victim has been discharged.
He claimed that the doctor agreed and even made them pay GHC10 and GH70 for bandage and medicine respectively.
But according to him, the two victims were subsequently taken to the theatre and their legs were amputated without the knowledge of the families.
He said the hospital authorities have refused to explain their actions and are not giving them the chance to see the victims.

The relatives of the two have since been challenging the professionalism of the doctor in the matter and demanding a probe into what happened.
Meanwhile, the doctor involved in the matter, Dr Prah said that they were forced to amputate the legs of the victims without any consent because they were brought to the hospital with an unknown status.
He further indicated that the operation was done to “to save their lives”.
He has, however, declined to give details on the matter as hospital authorities are yet to permit him to do so.
