The Accra Regional Police Command is investigating a case where 2 prisoners at the Ankaful Prisons, have allegedly defrauded a 45-year-old woman to the tune of GH¢8,300.
Yakubu was initially sentenced to life imprisonment but it was later reduced to 25 years.
According to the Daily Guide newspaper, the police narrated that the victim received a phone call from Addoa in August 2017, where he introduced himself as an importer.
Addoa subsequently proposed marriage to the victim.

A month later, Addoa demanded financial assistance from her to clear his car spare parts from the harbour.
He gave her 5 mobile money numbers to deposit an amount of GH¢8,300 into them. He also told her how much should be paid into each account. On October 10, 2017, the victim did as he had directed.
Addoa continued to demand money even after the first payment was made. It was at this point the victim suspected that he may be a fraudster and reported to the Accra Regional Police Command.
The Crime Officer-in-charge of operations DSP Savior Ahiamadi, who confirmed the news said that since the victim did not know the identity of the said Addoa after reporting the matter, the police asked her to persuade the suspect to come down and act as a guarantor for a parcel of land she wanted to sell.
She told Addoa that the money that would accrue from the sale of the land, would be given it to him to clear the goods.
The victim persuaded Addoa to come and act as a guarantor for her to sell her land but he gave an excuse that he was busy in Kumasi and would rather send his nephew.

On December 27, Addoa sent one Kwame Mustapha to meet the victim to sign the land documents and was arrested by the police.
The victim again called Addoa to tell him that his nephew did not come and so Addoa sent one Stella Hadzah – a nursing mother he claimed was his sister – to sign the documents the next day.

Hadzah was also arrested by the police. That was when the police and the victim got to know Addoa was a prisoner serving his jail term at the Ankaful Maximum Prisons.
The police later found out Mustapha and Hadzah were also innocent.
Mustapha had also been defrauded of GHC 50 by Addoa.
The police said on January 2, 2018, Addoa was identified at the Ankaful Prison and he mentioned Yaw Bio as the mastermind behind the act and with the help of the wardens of the prison, the mobile phone allegedly used for the nefarious activity was seized.
