Jamaica Set To Legalise Consumption And Production Of Marijuana

This is in line with the approval of a bill by the island country's cabinet  that legalises the possession of small amounts of marijuana. The bill also seeks to provide a leeway for the cultivation, sale and distribution of marijuana for medical and therapeutic purposes through an official licensing body.

Jamaica might be ready to legalise the growth, sale and distribution of marijuana. According to a report on BBC, the country's Rastafarian community, which uses the herb for religious purposes, could be able to smoke it legally.

This is in line with the approval of a bill by the island country's cabinet  that legalises the possession of small amounts of marijuana. The bill also seeks to provide a leeway for the cultivation, sale and distribution of marijuana for medical and therapeutic purposes through an official licensing body.

However, the bill also seeks to ban the smoking of marijuana in public places

The bill will be sent to the country senate for approval.

Marijuana also known as cannabis happens to be the third most popular recreational drug in the United States and should Jamaica legalise it, it will be joining leagues of countries like Uruguay, where growth, sale and distribution of marijuana is legal
