Ghanaian Cultural Values Under Threat

Mr Adelayitar Ricky Kofi has noted that lack of adequate support has militated against the success of the country’s cultural practices.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kekeli Concept Limited Mr. Adelayitar Ricky Kofi has indicated that, lack of adequate support on the part of government has militated against the success of the country’s cultural practices.

He disclosed this in an exclusive interview in his apartment at Adenta when he was made to respond to questions pertaining to his position as the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Dance Group.

He noted that “Ghana has a rich cultural heritage that supersedes many countries but is currently performing undertone internationally because, much attention has not been directed towards the sector”.

He explained that, although there are centers for national cultures across the ten regions of Ghana to promote culture, they have all become unproductive due to insufficient funds and premeditated Policies.

He was optimistic that, if government could assist the sector they would be able to contribute meaningfully to the National purse and also gain for the country the necessary recognition globally.

He added that, information available to him suggest that “Ghanaian dances in America is currently thought by whites who came to learn in the country”.

This he noted is hampering the quality of our culture because they are not able to teach true Ghanaian dances.

According to him, these whites even make it difficult for true Ghanaian performers to come and perform for the fear that they might take over the market.

He appealed to government, cooperated bodies and individuals to support the culture industry since it is an integral part of our origin.
