Former President John Mahama joined hundreds of mourners at Kumasi in the Ashanti region to mourn with Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and his family to pay their last respect to Bridget Kyerematen-Darko, [sister of Alan Kyeremanten] a

Bridget Kyerematen-Darko, 58, a sister of the Minister, died from injuries from the La Gas explosion. Her shop was located near the area the gas explosion occurred and hence sustained her injuries when the fire resulting from the explosion extended to her shop.

More than ten other persons were confirmed dead with over 40 said to have been injured in the explosion.

Mahama in a Facebook post said "I attended the final funeral rites for the late Mrs. Bridget Kyerematen-Darko, Executive Director of Aid to Artisans, Ghana and sister of Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen in Kumasi on Sunday.

She was one of the victims of the gas station explosion near the Trade Fair Centre in Accra. Condolences to the husband and family, and May her soul rest in perfect."

Mahama was accompanied by Mr Julius Debrah, the former Chief of Staff.

The funeral was also attended by President Nana Akufo-Addo, Ministers of state, ex-President J.A. Kufuor, Speaker of Parliament Mike Ocquaye and a host of other political figures.

Mrs. Bridget Darko was the Executive Director of Aid to Artisans, Ghana (ATAG), a non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established in 1989 to support the development of the Craft Industry in Ghana.

She read Development Planning for her first degree, and has a post-graduate diploma in Industrial Management from KNUST, Ghana. She subsequently acquired an MBA (Finance) from University of Ghana and completed the Programme on Investment Appraisal and Management (Harvard Institute for International Development).
