The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who opened the mall named the Food Court at the mall after his late mother and Asantehemaa
He said the people in Accra have resorted of making fun of residents in Kumasi and trolled on social media when the mall was opened for business last month.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who joined the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu to commission the Kumasi City mall today, Wednesday May 10, 2017 speaking at the opening ceremony of the $95 million facility said the Kumasi residents should not be perturbed about the social media trolls that associated the opening of the mall.
He said Ghanaians now know that Kumasi has the biggest shopping mall in the country.
"The Kumasi City Mall has the enviable status of not just being the only mall outside of Accra, but it is now also, arguably, the biggest mall in Ghana and the biggest in West Africa. It, therefore, should not come as a surprise to residents of Kumasi that your compatriots in Accra resorted to poking fun at you and trolled you on Facebook and social media, when this mall opened for business last month.
"The reason is simple. You have stolen their thunder. They no longer have the bragging rights of having the biggest mall in West Africa," he stated.
He added that "As from this very moment, it is no longer “YƐn nso yƐ wƆ bi”, as I have heard some say here, but “KƐsi no wƆ Kumasi”. KCM, you do all!!."
Kumasi City Mall, the first world-class Shopping Centre in the Ashanti Region and indeed in the entire northern sector of the country, opened on April 20 to a tumultuous reception by the people of the Kumasi Metropolis and Ghanaians of all walks of life.
