Attorney General To Pursue Case Despite Effe's Withdrawal

The AG may consider the request of the victim but that decision will be influenced by the evidence the AG or the Police have. However if the two institutions have enough evidence, they can still go ahead and prosecute the case.

The Attorney General (AG) has indicated it will continue to pursue an alleged rape case against showbiz icon, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa(KKD) despite the victim’s requestion for the court to drop the case.

KKD is alleged to have raped a 19-year- old woman  at the African Regent hotel Accra, but he has denied the accusation, insisting the act was consensual.

In his lawyer’s bail application, he argued that the facts do not show “there was any physical or verbal threat of harm or physical restraint used to compel the victim to have sex with the accused, yet, the prosecution contends the use of force.”

He further argued among others that, even though there were two other persons in the room during the alleged rape incident, the facts of the prosecutor do not state that “any one of them heard noise from the so-called victim.”

The woman a few weeks ago wrote to the court, announcing her disinterest in the case.

However the prosecutor announced in court that they will be serving KKD and his legal team the bill of indictment and summary of evidence. He further prayed the court to adjourn sitting for a week in order for it to complete the processes.
