12 UNIJOS students feared dead as terrorists strike 5 days after resumption

Thursday's twin bomb blast in Jos, Plateau state, is believed to have killed as many as 12 students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS).

As many as twelve (12) students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) are feared in Thursday's twin bomb attacks in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Student Pulse gathered that the explosions occurred between 4pm and 6pm around the university's main campus.

The first explosion happened at the popular Bauchi Motor Park while the second occurred near a military checkpoint reported to be just about 100 meters away.

There are yet no official casualty figures but news reports claim that as many as 12 bodies, most of whom are believed to be students, were taken away from the scenes.

The spokesperson of the Plateau Police Command, DSP Abu Emmanuel, confirmed the attacks but said the force has no official casualty figure yet.

"It is true there were twin explosions but we are yet to gather details of casualties," the spokesman said.

"Our men are there on a rescue operation. They will reveal the casualty figure at the end of the mission."

It was raining heavily at the time of the explosions.

UNIJOS students only just resumed on the 23rd of February for academic activities, months after their schools was closed following the violent November 24 protests.

Exams commenced shortly after and it is feared that some of the victims of Thursday's bomb blast are might be students who just finished writing exams.
