Memoirs out on 70th birthday, title will be 'shocking'

Rawlings’ memoir is expected to talk about his early life, the motivations for the two military coups he was involved in, alleged murders and forced disappearances during his almost two decade stay in power.

According to the former head of state, the book will be released ahead of his 70th birthday which falls on Thursday June 22, 2017.

“My memoir will be out by my 70th birthday and the title will however be shocking but true.”

Also expected to feature is his strained relationship with his vice presidents; Kow Nkensen Arkaah,  who he reportedly punched during a cabinet meeting, and John Evans Atta-Mills; who he openly criticised when he became president in 2009.

There has been calls from several quarters, especially historians and academics, for former government officials to write about their time in office.

Last year, Kwame Addo-Kufuor, former Minister of Defence published his memoirs. Gold Coast Boy talked about his public life, his brother (former President John Kufuor) and his achievements.
