2 prisoners escape from Amanfrom prisons

Two prisoners have escaped from the Amanfrom prisons in the Ashanti region

Two prisoners are on the loose and the Ghana Prisons Service want the public's help to locate them.

The two who were serving various sentences at the Amanfrom Camp Prisons, near Kumasi, in the Ashanti region were said to have escaped on Friday July 10, 2015.

Prison officers have initiated investigations into how the duo managed to escape lawful custody.

Their names are yet to be made public. They were said to have escaped whilst working with their colleagues on a vegetable farm in the afternoon.

According to Lance Corporal George Owusu, Assistant Regional Prisons Public Relations Officer (PRO), “Nobody knows how it happened…we are still investigating to know how the whole thing happened.”

He explained on Friday, inmates who had just been granted amnesty in the Ashanti region were released.

After leaving for their homes, those who were to go to the farm were able dispatched and within that short period the two escaped.

He said a search a party was looking for the escapees and added the officers involved would be investigated.
