The Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, CHRAJ has debunked claims by the public that the dismissal of the CHRAJ boss, Lauretta Lamptey has dented its image.

President Mahama on Wednesday, removed the Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Lauretta Vivian Lamptey from office.

A source close to the presidency said President Mahama removed her in accordance with Article 146(9) after accepting the recommendations of a Committee set up by the Chief Justice to investigate allegations of corruption and misappropriation of public funds.

Ms Lamptey was accused of spending about 200,000 dollars on rent at the AU Village and about 180, 000 cedis on the renovation of her official residence

Speaking on Accra based Citi Fm, Head of Public Affairs of CHRAJ, Comfort Akosua Edu said that the president's decision has not tarnished the image of the commission.

She added that “despite the decision by the president to remove her from post, work must go on. Work has been ongoing since the news came. This matter has been investigated by a committee put together by the Chief Justice and a report submitted to the President."

“So if the president has taken his decision what can we say? After all the constitutional process was followed so we have to respect what the president’s decided.”

In January, 2015 the Commissioner was suspended by Mahama following the establishment of a prima facie case against her by the Chief Justice.
