I'm entitled to my ex-gratia; It is not a favour - Tsatsu

According to him, following his twelve years of stewardship, arguments on whether he is deserving of an ex-gratia payment from the company are baseless.

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Tsatsu Tsikata has stated that he is duly entitled to an ex-gratia payment, despite controversies surrounding it.

A former Deputy Energy Minister and MP for Adansi-Asokwa, K.T Hammond has described the monies to be paid Mr. Tsikata and four others as “criminal” and has called for investigations into the matter.

However, speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Tsatsu Tsikata said he will collect the money because it is his right.

“Of course I am entitled to it and I should have payments made on the basis of entitlements not a favour that anybody is doing. It’s an entitlement which has to be recognized as such.

“Tell me what is morally insane about entitlements. Is it a question of comparing the entitlements of different organizations and determining that in one organization it is morally insane and in other it is not? What is the basis of this claim that it is morally insane.” he asked.

The GNPC in a statement confirmed that its board has approved the payment of the monies to the former employees.

This followed an expose’ of the payment by former deputy energy minister K.T Hammond.

K.T Hammond has since been sued by Mr. Tsikata for defamation for alleging that he [Mr. Tsikata] has already received a payment of one million cedis.
