FBI arrest 2 women for bombing attempt

Court documents reveal that the women, who are United States citizens, conspired to use "an explosive device" against people in the US.

2 women have been arrested by the FBI in New York after it was revealed that the duo had attempted to plant a bomb in New York City.

BBC reports that court documents reveal that the  women, who are United States citizens, conspired to use "an explosive device" against people in the US.

The duo, Noelle Velentzas and Asia Siddiqui are reported to have been roommates living in the Queens section of New York City.

Court documents also further reveal that Siddiqui had several gas tanks and instructions on turning them into bombs and  "had repeated contact with members of the foreign terrorist organisation al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula"

Also, the women had been meeting with an undercover agent for several years with Siddiqui reportedly telling the agent that her roommate, Velentzas, who referred to Osama Bin Laden as a hero, had a particular interest in pressure cookers, which were used in the attacks on the Boston Marathon in 2013.

Velentzas is also reported to have questioned why people would try to travel overseas when there were targets in the United States that provided opportunities for "pleasing Allah".
