Rattray Park reopened after it was closed down for non-payment of tax

Since it was commissioned in 2015, GRA officials in Kumasi say the facility has not been registered for tax purposes.

The management of the park had agreed with officials from the GRA to open the park while they go through the process to pay their taxes and register the park as a business entity, Accra-based Class FM report on Saturday.

Multiple attempts by the GRA to get the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, managers of the park, to register the facility as a business entity has been unseccessful.

The entry gate was sealed with commissioners tape after patrons and workers were forced out of the facility.

The recreational facility was jointly commissioned President John Mahama and by the AsanteheneOtumfuo Osei Tutu II in 2015.

The park was named after Captain Robert Rattray, a Scottish who was the Assistant Colonial Secretary in the Gold Coast and clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Accra in 1919.

It forms part of efforts to green Kumasi and restore it to its past glory as the Garden City of West Africa.
