Over 1500 seized arms destroyed

The weapons were burnt by the Ghana Armed Forces with approval from the Interior Ministry

 

The Ministry of Interior and the Ghana Armed Forces have destroyed over 1500 illegal arms at the Trade Fair centre. The weapons were seized from 2015 to 2016.

The weapons were seized by the police from criminals and as the practice has been the weapons are publicly destroyed by the Ghana Armed Forces.

Minister for Interior Prosper Bani said " those in possession of unlicensed weapons to take urgent step in getting them registered"

"The law enforcement agencies should ensure that individuals found with unregistered weapons would be arrested  and prosecuted by law"

Present were the UNPD country director and the executive director of WANEP

In an interview with Pulse.com.gh the executive director for WANEP Chukwuemeka  Eze mentioned that so long as there is a market for the small arms and weapons it will thrive. He advised the Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons to ensure that arms in the system are legally licensed for the right usage.
