Accra flooded; Meteo warns against fast flowing water

Parts of Accra have so far experienced severe flooding after about six hours of rains.

No human casualties have been reported yet, but reports say residents, especially those around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Tema and surrounding areas have lost some properties.

This comes barely a week after the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije announced that 45 percent of work had been done by way of dredging major drains in the city.

The rains which began Thursday dawn, is likely to persist for a while, the Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned.

A caution message being circulated by Communications minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah said: “The Ghana Meteorological Agency has advised that the rains will continue for a while longer; hence the general public should avoid fast flowing water, move from lower ground to higher places if need be and call emergency lines- including 112 should the need arise”.
