20th edition of GJA awards launched

The 20th edition of the GJA awards has been launched to celebrate hardworking Ghanaian journalists.

The 20 edition of the Ghana Journalist Awards has been launched. The event which is geared at celebrating the achievements and contributions of the people who disseminate wholesome information to the general public is scheduled for August 15, 2015 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.

President of GJA, Mr. Roland Affail Monney quoted the theme for the event as “Ghana in search of reliable energy to power development: the role of the media”.

Speaking at the event, he said the theme was chosen in relation to the current power crisis facing the country.

He continued that the entries one in five categories, with more than 40 awards up for grabs by the deserving journalists. He added the contest to open to all journalist who believe their works in the previous year deserves to be recommended.

The president speaking on the behalf of the executives of the Association said the ceremony like any other awards is to praised and recognize the works of deserving members and encourage others to live up to standards.

Mr. Affail Monney said the general public has a role of selecting this year’s Journalist of the year and the most promising Young Journalist. The selection will be done by sending letters to selected members also tagged as “media watchers” across the region. He concluded that the identity of these individual will be disclosed but there are noted be fair in their judgments.
