Malawian arrested for possessing cocaine

A Malawian national has been arrested by operatives of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in Ghana for trafficking heroine into the country.

Ms Phiri was arraigned before court Wednesday for possessing narcotics drug without lawful authority and importation of narcotic drug without license from the Ministry of health.

According to the Malawian national, the bag containing the heroine does not belong to her but was given to her by a Nigerian national to be delivered to another Nigerian resident here in Ghana.

Ms. Phiri stated in court through her lawyer that she is a civil servant and was in the country on a business trip, Starr FM has reported.

Initial tests at the Kotoka International Airport revealed that the substance was heroine. The substance has since been forwarded to NACOB for further tests.
