Disabled workers to block Finance, Education ministries in protest

The Ghana Union of Disabled Workers and the Ghana Federation of Disabled Organization, who will be leading the demonstration, said the move is to put intense pressure on government to pay their allowances which have been in arrears for over three years.

“Government needs to pay us some allowances, which are commuting and guide allowance. For the commuting allowance, some of our members are not enjoying it at all and since 2013, we’ve been battling it up till now,” Interim chairman for the Ghana Union of Disabled workers, Alex Hodor has told Accra-based Citi FM.

“They give us assurances yet we are in June 2016. We only want this thing to be implemented in a very smooth way so that we will not disturb government of any arrears. We will protest on July 13, 2016. We are bringing our wheelchairs and white canes to block the Ministry of Education and the Finance Ministry,” he added.
