It follows fresh revelations from Joy News investigation into alleged payment of kickbacks to a former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and some members of the Brazil 2014 World Cup Committee. Director and Lawyer for E-volution, Alex Abban on Monday denied the payment of GHȼ80, 000 from the account of E-volution to the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC).

E-volution Confirms A Payment Of GHȼ80,000 To GNPC
Lawyer for E-volution, the company alleged to have paid several thousands of Ghana cedis to state officials as kickback, appears to be beating a retreat a day after he categorically denied the company paid the money.

However, in a discussion between the Chief Procurement Officer at GNPC, Samuel Ledo and Joy FM's Mannaseh Azure Awuni, it emerged, based on evidence, that the former indeed received the said amount from E-volution. Despite admitting GHȼ80, 000 was paid into his account by one Alfred of E-volution, Mr. Ledo said it was a “personal” transaction between the two of them which “I don’t want to disclose”.
When he was confronted with the information on Ledo, Lawyer for Evolution Mr. Alex Abban beat a retreat on his earlier position, acknowledging on the Super Morning Show Tuesday, December 23, 2014 that money was paid to Samuel Ledo.
“From circumstantial point of view it appears that some monies may have moved from E-volution [account] to Samuel Ledo… [But] I cannot go to the point of categorically saying that E-volution paid into the account of Samuel Ledo”. Manasseh Azure Awuni who has been investigating this deal reports that, three separate internal payment vouchers in the possession of Joy News indicate E-Volution International’s approval for payment of Ghȼ100,000 to Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah as “production cost”.

Same amount was also alleged to have been paid to the committee. Members of the committee stormed the studios of Joy FM on Tuesday, to strongly deny reports that they received kickbacks from E-Volution, the company that was awarded the contract to organize viewing centres for football fans. Led by their Chairman, Joel Nettey, members of the committee called for investigations into the matter which they describe as “dirty” and “irritating”.“When everything is about allegation, allegation, allegation and limitations in information gathering and yet the conclusion seems to be targeting a certain group…and some of us have suffered consequences.
“…So when investigations such as this is going on we have appropriate authorities who have coercive powers to handle this thing and monitor,” said Kojo Adu Asare, a member of the committee.Early on in the programme, former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah who said he was “advised” by the GNPC to work with E-volution, also denied taking the money “for any purpose”.
He said he was prepared to avail himself for any further investigative procedure to clear his name of “all this world cup brouhaha once and for all”.
