One paid, three remaining

At the committee’s sitting yesterday it was revealed that only one person has been paid remaining three.

The Mines and Energy committee in parliament has summoned the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC officials to the committee to clarify issues on ex-gratia paid to some four former workers of the GNPC including.

The Board of Directors of GNPC has approved the payment of ex-gratia to four former employees of the corporation, comprising of two former Chief Executives and two managers.

The four are: Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata (Chief Executive); Nana Boakye Asafu-Adjaye (Ag. Chief Executive); Mr. Benjamin Dagadu (Field Evaluation and Development Manager); and Ms. Esther Cobbah (Public Affairs Manager).

This move has caused a lot of public upset, with former Energy minister K T Hammond insisting that Tsatsu Tsikata and his wife Esther Cobbah do not deserve any payment.

“A lot of discussion went on" Said Chairman of the committee and MP for Madina Amadu Sorogo "but the basic of all is that yes the opinions are well understood but we needed documentary evidence.”

Sorogo said the notice to the GNPC authorities to appear before the committee was short and so they could not produce documents to support their claims.

The chairman of the committee refused to disclose further details of the meeting except to say GNPC authorities agreed that they indeed have agreed that some amount has been allocated to pay the former workers.

“So far what they have said in terms of verbal narration I am saying is okay. We are waiting for those narrations to be supported by documents that we so need.” Sorogo said.

Meanwhile in a statement yesterday Madam Esther Cobbah argued that she is entitled to her ex-gratia but indicated that she has not been paid yet.
