Mahama petitioned to sack EC boss

According to Mr. Nyamah, the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei violated the constitution by holding another public office whiles serving her role as EC boss.

The anti-graft campaigner has already caused the dismissal of Lauretta Lamptey, the former head of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, (CHRAJ) for misconduct.

He subsequently in January this year alleged that the EC boss was also a board member of the Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited in addition to her position at EC.

Ghana Reinsurance Company later denied the allegations adding that the EC boss resigned before her appointment.

However, Mr. Nyamah insists that her “belated resignation from Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited (a Limited Liability Company with 100% Ghana government shareholding) smacks of an admission of the breach of the prohibition in Article 44(4) of the Constitution.”

Ms Charlotte Osei consequently dared the pressure group to file a petition if it felt she had breached the constitution.

Mr. Nyamah has therefore sent a three-page fifteen-paragraph petition to the President to act in accordance with Article 146 of the Constitution and dismiss the EC Chair, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

The President would refer the petition to the Chief Justice who will determine if there is a prima facie case against the EC boss which will require further investigation.
