The head porters came to the parade with their pans on their heads in the Ashanti region.

Their presence at the Independence Day parade was to show appreciation to the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for abolishing levies imposed on them by local authorities.

This comes on the back of the 2017 budget presented on the floor of Parliament by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

During the maiden presentation of the current administration’s national budget on Thursday,Ken Ofori-Atta, lined up a considerable number of taxes to be abolished as a way of encouraging the growth of the private sector.

Mr Ofori-Atta said taxes charged on the head porters was among the counterproductive taxes that needed to be scrapped.
