Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia led thousands of Ghanaians through some principal streets in Accra in a health walk on Saturday.
The health walk was part of events marking Ghana's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.
He was joined by other senior government officials such as the Attorney General Gloria Akufo and the Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah.
The walk started at circle and ended at the Accra Sports Stadium where the vice president addressed the participants.
During the walk, the vice president had a heartily chat with some 'kayayies' who joined the crowd to greet him.
Only three days ago, the government had abolished the 'kayayie' levy charged by local authorities.
In his address, the vice president noted that Ghana's destiny is prosperity and not poverty.
According him, the NPP government's maiden budget gravitates towards prosperity.
He said: "We were brought into this country by God. A land of a lot of resources and we were not brought here to be poor. Our destiny is not poverty, our destiny is prosperity. That is why in the budget we’ve seen the beginning towards the path of prosperity. Many people thought we couldn't do free SHS but by Allah’s grace, it is happening this year.
"Many were doubtful of the restoration of the teacher and nursing training allowance but by Allah’s grace, it is happening.""Many were of the view that it is impossible to slash the tax imposed on the importation of spare parts but it is happening. Many people thought we could not give each constitution 1million dollar but we are doing it this year. This is the path to prosperity that we want"
