Akufo-Addo Condemns 'Insane' al-Shabaab Attack

Nana Addo has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Garissa University College which claimed 147 lives in north eastern Kenya.

Leader of Ghana’s main opposition party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed disgust at the killing of 148 at Kenya’s Garissa University College last Thursday.

Somali Islamist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack.

“I received news of Al-Shabbab’s attack on the campus of Garissa University College in Kenya with shock and sadness,” Nana Addo said in a statement on Saturday, April 4.

“I join the rest of the world in sympathising with the families of the dead and the wounded. I pray for a speedy recovery for the wounded so that they can get back to their studies. I wish to condemn unreservedly this insane and cowardly act by Al-Shabbab.”

New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate said the attack cannot be justified under the principles and laws of Islam.

“No religion sanctions the killing of innocent people, especially women and children.

He called for assurance for Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta in deed and “not just words.”

“The citizens of Kenya deserve to go about their daily lawful activities without being terrorised by a group of cowardly people who bastardise a peaceful religion of great good.”

He said the activity of the militants is threatening the traditional coexistence of Christians and Muslims across the world.

“I wish to appeal to all Kenyans to remain steadfast in their well-known spirit of tolerance and not allow themselves to be provoked into seeing their fellow Muslim compatriots as enemies.”

Five persons have been arrested over the attack.

Witnesses say the attackers separated Muslims and Christians after which they shot the latter.

“Al-Shabbab does not and cannot represent the Muslim population of either Somalia or Kenya.”
