Ban on noise making begins May 2

The Gbese Mantse,Nii Ayi Bonte II, who announced this at a press conference in Accra said the Council will team up with security agencies in the country to help enforce the ban on drumming and noise making, ahead of the Homowo celebrations.
 
 

The ban on drumming and noise making in the Ga Traditional Area is scheduled to begin from May 2, 2016 to June 2, 2015.

According to the Ga traditional council, the Homowo festival will be ushered in by the Lante Djan We on 23rd July while the Ga Mashie Homowo will be celebrated on August 6th.The Gbese Mantse,Nii Ayi Bonte II, who announced this at a press conference in Accra said the Council will team up with security agencies in the country to help enforce the ban on drumming and noise making, ahead of the Homowo celebrations.

He added that the council would not hesitate to prosecute any member of the public who flouted the regulation.

The Ga Mashie Homowo festival (hooting at hunger) is a colourful festival which attracts scores of revelers from home and abroad.

A month before the celebration, there is a ban on noise making, during which there is a panting of corn and millet called 'ngmaadumo'.

The celebration is characterised by rituals such as the sprinkling of "Kpokpoi" (the festival meal) to the gods and ancestors for spiritual protection.

There is also a procession of twins through the principal streets, traditional drumming and dancing and general merry-making.
