Agogo residents hit streets today

The traditional council of the area last two months issued an ultimatum to the herdsmen to vacate the area by March 31 but residents argue that the Fulani herdsmen are still in the enclave destroying farms and tormenting farmers.

A combined team of police and military was deployed to the area by the Ashanti Regional Security Council to flush out the herdsmen but that has also proved futile, the angry residents have said.

Spokesperson for the Agogo World Wide Association (WWA), Sam Enyan Kusi has told Accra-based Joy FM that “The government has failed us; we have been disappointed by the government”.

He added that they will be compelled to use force to drive out the nomadic herdsmen if after their demonstration the government fails to come to their rescue.

There is rising tension in the area following the protracted conflict between residents and the nomadic herdsmen has claimed lives of several people and cattle.
