CHRAJ writes to Mahama

Some sections of Ghanaians expressed anger over reports that President Mahama was given a brand new Ford Expedition in 2012 by a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe who won the bid to construct the $650,000 Ghana Embassy Wall in the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has written to President John Mahama for his response to the controversy surrounding a ‘car gift’ given to him.

The President has 10 days after the date of the receipt of the letter to give his response, sources at CHRAJ told the Daily Graphic.

The letter, dated July 7, 2016, is in line with the (Investigations Procedure) Regulations, 2010 (CI) 67.

Many anti-corruption campaigners slammed the president for what they describe as his disregard for the guidelines on conflict of interest in accepting the vehicle gift.

However, Government in a statement issued by Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah said even though the car was received, it had nothing to do with the contract awarded.

President John Mahama subsequentlyrubbished corruption allegations against him, saying such claims are baseless.

He also indicated that he is aware that some Ghanaians have petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), over the matter, and he will respond to it soon.

“It is matter for the Commission on Human Rights. I hear there is a petition there and appropriately, we will respond to it.”
